Wayne County Community Foundation trustees approved grants totaling $63,750 at their recent fall meeting.Receiving awards were:• Christian Children’s Home of Ohio, $12,000 to renovate cottages.• Goodwill Industries of Wayne and Holmes Counties, $10,000 to help purchase a van to transport employment training-program participants.• Liberty Center Connections, $7,500 to assist with startup costs for a counselor/social worker who will be located at the Viola Startzman Free Clinic.• North Central State College Foundation, $2,500 to support Wayne County students who need emergency help with the cost of books and transportation to college.• The Village Network, $5,000 for a program addressing pregnancy prevention, substance abuse education, graduation rates and life skills training for at-risk Wayne County children.• Viola Startzman Free Clinic, $10,000 to purchase medical equipment and upgrade lighting.• Wayne County Volunteer Guardianship Association, $1,250 to help volunteer guardians provide for the needs of the mentally incompetent in Wayne County.• Wooster City Schools, $7,500 to help improve/update the strength and fitness area at the Gault Recreation Center.• Wooster Township Elementary (Triway Local Schools), $8,000 for its Playground Project 2012 to provide permanent enhancements for outdoor physical activities on the school playground. The foundation is a not-for-profit charitable community organization established in 1978 to accept contributions, create and administer funds, and make grants for the benefit of the people of the Greater Wayne County area.
